1. It contains cancer-fighting properties
Studies have found that vinegar may be able to kill cancer cells or slow their growth. Vinegar may have anti-tumour properties thanks to the acetic acid bacteria. In recent trials, pectin has shown promise in helping to slow the growth of cancerous cells within the prostate, but this is still in the early stages of research.
2. It can help type-2 diabetics improve insulin sensitivity
Apple cider vinegar’s role in combatting type 2 diabetes is very encouraging. A study of 11 people with type 2 diabetes found that taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed lowered glucose levels in the morning by 4 – 6%. In another study, subjects took a drink of 20 grams of apple cider vinegar and 40 grams of water. Those with insulin resistance who drank the vinegar has 34% lower after-meal glucose levels.
3. It can help bad cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular disease
Apple cider vinegar contains acids that may help lower cholesterol, by preventing it from accumulating and crystallising in the bloodstream. Scientists have found an apple cider vinegar-enhanced diet that may increase HDL (good cholesterol) and reduce levels of triglycerides. It is best suited to lower cholesterol if it is the result of poor diet or genetic predisposition.
4. It can help lower blood pressure
A study found that people who eat oil and vinegar dressing on salads five to six times a week have lower rates of heart disease than those who didn’t. Potassium in vinegar balances sodium levels in the body, which may aid in maintaining blood pressure within healthy limits. Apple cider vinegar also contains magnesium – a material that works to relax blood vessel walls and potentially lower high blood pressure.
5. It can help with weight loss
Vinegar can increase feelings of fullness and make people eat 200 – 275 fewer calories a day. In one study, 175 obese but healthy people were divided into two groups. One group took water and the other group took vinegar along with their diets. At the end of the 12 weeks, the people who took vinegar lost an average of 1 to 2 pounds.
