Things to do in Mississauga

Mississauga is Canada’s sixth largest city and is located on the shores of Lake Ontario. It is a vibrant, multi-cultural and metropolitan city with many things to do and see. Take your pick, from live musical performances at the Living Arts Centre to impressive waterfront walking trails and of course, not to forget, the endless choice of fine restaurants and cafés. If you’re planning a trip to Mississauga or simply, visiting for business or perhaps for a family or friend’s wedding, here are a list of five things you should not miss.

 Port Credit

Located at the foot of Mississauga and on the doorstep of Canada’s largest city of Toronto, Port Credit is a small town with big charm. It has a gorgeous marina and plays host to many festivals and events throughout the year. For example, there is The Waterfront Festival which occurs at the end of June, The Port Credit In-Water Boat Show–an annual event held in August at the Port Credit Harbour Marina, and an annual three day Blues and Jazz festival in September, founded in 1999 by Chuck Jackson. There is most definitely no shortage of things to do in this great small town.

Celebration Square

Celebration Square is the centre of all activity in Mississauga. It’s located right next to Square One mall and the library. There is always something happening here, from festivals to open air movies to live concerts – all of which are free. Also, the square is home to a nice outdoor ice rink in winter.

Mississauga Living Arts Centre

This 225,000 square foot building welcomes over 300,000 visitors each year for performing and visual arts, business meetings and conventions. It is located just west of the Square One Shopping Centre, and just north of City Hall. Great acts like Oscar Peterson and Bob Newhart have appeared on its stage.

The Waterfront Walking Trail

The Waterfront Trail along Lake Ontario is nature at its finest. You can walk through 22 impressive parks, Bradley House Museum and Rattray Marsh. Over 20 km of trail means you get a great workout walking along through various areas of the city including the historic and colourful Port Credit.

The Sawmill Walking Trail

Another great walking trail, the Sawmill trail allows for the use of bicycles on and off roads and runs through natural and urban settings. The trail was developed through the City Master Plan as well as through the support of the Mississauga cycling committee. It follows the Credit River Valley fromaccess point at Burnamthorpe Road at Walnut Grove Rd. and traverses through to the Junction of Mississauga and the South Millway.
